Cavalcades 2010

HOUND CAVALCADES at the SOUTH of ENGLAND SHOW

10th,11th & 12th JUNE 2010

We are delighted to be able to tell you that the Chairman and Council of the South of England Agricultural Society have once again invited the South of England Hound Show to organise the Hound Cavalcades that will take place on each day of the Show.  They are also very kindly funding these events.

As this will be immediately following the General Election, we feel that –whatever the result – Hunting should be seen to be in strong heart and ready to take a firm lead in its own destiny.

Thursday is the Foxhound Day at the Hound Show, so we have traditionally had a Cavalcade of Foot Packs on that day.  It is also the first day of the Show when there is usually the largest number of VIPs present and the greatest amount of Press and TV coverage.  For this reason, we have decided to change the format for this year and for the Thursday Cavalcade to include all six types of quarry hounds – Foxhounds, Harriers, Staghounds, Beagles, Bassets and Mink Hounds. We shall invite one pack of each type as a representative – a difficult job without offending anyone!!

The Cavalcades in the Ardingly Ring will take place at the end of the lunch break, before the afternoon Hound Judging starts on Thursday and Friday.  We are asking every pack that is taking part in the Hound Show to take part in that day's Cavalcade with two members of their Hunt Staff on foot and in Livery as for showing, with two couple of hounds on couples.  These hounds could be the Doghounds that were shown in the morning or some additional hounds to the Bitches being shown in the afternoon, if those are wanted to be kept fresh for showing.  The Cavalcade will be a short, mass "Walk in (direct from Hound Show kennels), mass salute and return. 10 minutes." The Judging of the Bitches will be delayed to allow this to happen.

The Cavalcades will consist of:

                                                              (approx)                            in livery

Saturday  9 mounted Foxhounds    148 ½ couple                                20                  20

Friday will consist of 4 local packs of Foxhounds parading and joined on foot by the Beagle Packs taking part in the Hound Show, as for the Foxhounds on Thursday.  The Judging of the Bitches will again be delayed to allow for this.

For Saturday we plan the ever popular and spectacular mass parade of the nine local Foxhound packs.

All this will give us really eye-catching Cavalcades on each of the three days which will impress the public and give the Media excellent material to prove that Hunting is active, strong and fit for purpose in 2010.

This will not be possible without your wholehearted support and that of our fantastic Hunt Staff, on whom much of the burden caused by the Hunting Ban falls and who have remained the backbone of hunting since the iniquitous Bill was forced through.  Let us hope that this will celebrate the movement towards Repeal and the return of Hunting to our countryside.

The Cavalcades at Ardingly will be organised by Robin Mackenzie as usual.  If you have any queries or suggestions, do ring him on 01264-738318 or e-mail to events@jandmassociates.co.uk.  When you send in your Hound Show entries, please confirm that you will be represented in the appropriate Cavalcade.

Do please support and take part in the Hound Show and the Cavalcades in this vitally important year.   See you at Ardingly!
